Young Parisian tops Downbeat's 'Bassist of the Year' poll
Just shy of under a year off an International tour with John McLaughlin’s power group 4th Dimension and completing an album with Chick Corea, Parisian bassist, Hadrien Feraud is announced Downbeat Magazine’s “Rising Star Electric Bassist of the Year.” Feraud tops the list that includes other great player’s like Matthew Garrison, Richard Bona and Chris Tarry.

“This is very important news for me,” said Feraud on receiving this achievement from the world renowned panel of critic’s polled annually by the US-owned magazine.
According to an article in the August 2008’s addition of Downbeat, the 24-year-old bassist was first recognized for his talent when he took part in a tribute to bassist Jean-François Jenny-Clark in 2001. By 2006, his recognition as strong player had grown with in the industry prompting McLaughlin invited Feraud to record on two tracks of his Industrial Zen (Verve) release and then with Corea’s trio album Brooklyn, Paris to Clearwater.
In 2007, Feraud released his own self-titled debut album on the Dreyfus label, which he says its influences range from the late Joe Zawinul to Stevie Wonder while incorporating more contemporary sounds of electro and jungle mixes.
Bassist, Jeff Berlin, personally congratulated Feraud saying, “I am not surprised because you are a phenomenal player. You and Matt Garrison, represent the new generation of brilliant bass players who are making great music for all of us to hear.”
