The American inspired art of jazz has a long history of international appeal. Cultures from all over the world have admired it and incorporated it into their musical traditions. In the process, jazz fusions have been born such as the gypsy jazz of Django Reinhardt and today’s Indian world fusions. After years of communist repression, the Russian and Eastern European new generation of jazz musicians have finally been given the opportunity to fully express themselves. These musicians are part of the next great story of jazz. Serbian guitarist Nenad Gajin is in the forefront of this exciting transformation. KEC is full of modern and progressive jazz, jazz-fusion and world influences. The folk music of the guitarist’s own ethnic traditions is never left too far behind either. Gajin is a guitarist of note quite capable of playing a jazz standard or a loud fusion rave-up. He has surrounded himself with top quality musicians who have shared the same heroes. From the opening riff-powered “Kec” through the beautiful ballad “25 cevapa” and all the way to the fun folk-influenced “Stani, stani Ibar Vodo” KEC is packed with fresh ideas presented by a new generation of Eastern European jazz-fusion musicians who are destined to make much more glorious noise.
